It was a cold but fun day in Door County. Evie loved chasing around the pool, tuckered out, and went down to sleep. She’s growing up so fast

- Favorite Things
They’re not sweater capes or Calypso music, but I have a few favorite things of my own this holiday season:
Mini Cooper S Clubman
I have long had an obsession with small cars in general, and the Mini Cooper in particular. I’ve been wanting a Mini since BMW debuted the redesigned version in 2002. Since we adopted our daughter last year, I had given up the idea of driving a Mini until she was out if a car seat (trying to get an infant into the rear of a 2 door car really is a pain). The introduction of the Clubman last February changed all that. Finally: a Mini with all the style and performance I’d the brand, but just a little bit longer. The third door (the “club door”) makes getting Evelyn into her car seat extremely easy. I finally have a car that screams “me.”Nikon D90
It’s my first real camera. Oh sure, I’ve owned umpteen point and shoot digital cameras before (most of them from Canon’s excelled PowerShot line), but I’ve never owned a camera that had interchangeable lens. The Nikon D90 is my first DSLR camera, and I’m enjoying it immensely. It has helped me get into photography as a hobby in a way I never could before with a simple point and shoot, and it’s starting to make me consider the composition and framing of my shots. It’s going to take years of practice, but my pictures are beginning to capture the moment instead of just recording it.Fallout 3
A haunting and exhilirating game from the creators of the Oblivion series. Bethesda has taken the classic post apocolyptic setting of Fallout and blended it with the first person role playing mechanics of Oblivion to spectacular effect. The gameplay mechanics are much improved over Oblivion, and the wasteland setting just feels like I always envision Fallout being. I’m not usually one for sandbox type games, but with over 40 hours played and no sign of the ending in sight Fallout has hooked me like no other game has this past year.Old Navy Toddler Girl’s Clothing
I have a daughter. She is 15 months old, and she has a lot to live up to. She is the daughter of two gay men, which means she can’t just be adorable and charming. She must look fabulous, always. And that’s why a healthy portion of my paycheck now goes to the toddler girls department at Old Navy. I know what you’re probably thinking: “Isn’t Old Navy home to poorly constructed garments designed from ideas 12 months behind the times?” Yes, that’s true for their men’s clothing. But for toddler clothing they are far more relevant. The construction still isn’t the best, but Evelyn isn’t going to be wearing the same size clothing for more than a month or two. The style is still probably about 12 months old, but that’s about 10 years newer than the design you’ll find at other children’s stores (I’m talking about you, Gymboree and Child’s Place). Best of all: the prices are fantastic. You try to look your best, shouldn’t your child?
